David Rovics
Music tells our stories like no news article or book can. It reaches another level - that of our heart. I just listened to David sing, They're Building a Wall. This song reminds us of how a wall (speaking of the one being built by Israel) impacts our human-ness.
From They're Building a Wall:
They're building a wall
Between water and land
So we can eat fruit
And they can eat sand
A wall to make sure
That our orchards will grow
And our kids can get fat
And not need to know
Of the cities in ruins
And the children in fear
That your fathers and brothers
In tanks might be near
A wall to keep quiet
That which you fear most
So you don't have to listen
To your grandfather's ghost
I remember the 60's and early 70's when the voice of conscience filled the air.
May all artists - may all people - speak up so that we don't forget who we are!
The arts keep our souls alive. Find out how to support David Rovics at DavidRovics.com (I'm sending my check today) or support the artist of your choice - and be sure to sing your own song!
