Why Do I Write This Blog???

The easiest (and probably the most honest) answer to that question is: I don't know. It all started in the summer of 2005, when I went to Crawford, Texas ( a.k.a. the home of the prez's ranch, a.k.a. the home of Camp Casey) to support Cindy Sheehan. I wanted the world to know that, contrary to what one could read in the mainstream media, the peace movement was alive and well and large numbers of Americans did not support the war in Iraq. I wanted people to know that thousands of Americans were willing to travel to Texas and tolerate the heat, humidity, and bugs in order to support a grieving mother whose new purpose was to shine a light on the lies that led to the war and to bring home our troops so that no other mother would have to know the pain that she felt.

Over time, this blog has become more of an exploration of who I am, my spirituality, and how life works. I love life's complexities, exploring the shades of gray. I want to, as Rainier Maria Rilke said,

"Be patient toward all that is unsolved in your heart and try to love the questions themselves, like locked rooms and like books that are now written in a very foreign tongue. Do not now seek the answers, which cannot be given you because you would not be able to live them. And the point is, to live everything. Live the questions now. Perhaps you will then gradually, without noticing it, live along some distant day into the answer."

Maybe my blog is just one big question about what is needed in order for people to take the time to love and cherish each other and our earth. Maybe someday, I will "live along some distant day into the answer."

In the meantime, thank you for joining me on my journey. I welcome you to share yours with me

Back to Colorado Tomorrow

I have been in a fog for the last two days. Lack of sleep and an allergic reaction to something in the D.C. hotel Saturday night... Then today, to relieve my symptoms (a nose like a faucet and a throat that craves to be scratched inside with a bottle brush), I took some Benadryl. THAT knocked me out for a few hours of interesting sleep and hallucinations.

So, when I get home, if I have any memory left, I will write more about this trip - even though all of you will have learned all about the march from other sources and it will be old news.

I absolutely love this old townhouse that I am staying in while in Baltimore. I love the couple that have put up with us here and the surroundings. We are right by the Maryland Institute College of Art, so students walk by carrying big art projects and plaster body parts. I have some photos of some of the work they have displayed around the neighborhood and I will post it another time, because right now, there is nothing more important than sleep for me.

I feel for you Carol. Allergies are awful and that Benadryl always knocks me out too. I'm sure you'll be glad to get home.

Sounds like you have paid some price for your trip (though you originally said it was free :) but it was worth it anyway. The art school sounds really cool - looking forward to the pictures. Perhaps you saw my old friend Aurora around there - she moved back there some time ago.

It seems like you've had a great trip - aside from getting sick - I hope you are all better.

I just got home!

Hey Mary,

I just don't get allergies like that, so it was surprising. And all worth it...

Yer son (who cracks me up),

You'll have to remind me of Aurora. But I'm SURE that I saw her there! ;-)

Otowi,

It was a really good trip in so many ways. And I feel much, much better now!

Sorry if the Hotel made you sick. Hope it wasn't something in our room.

Hey Robert,

Maybe I became allergic to myself! I'm still feeling it, although not as much.
