Why Do I Write This Blog???

The easiest (and probably the most honest) answer to that question is: I don't know. It all started in the summer of 2005, when I went to Crawford, Texas ( a.k.a. the home of the prez's ranch, a.k.a. the home of Camp Casey) to support Cindy Sheehan. I wanted the world to know that, contrary to what one could read in the mainstream media, the peace movement was alive and well and large numbers of Americans did not support the war in Iraq. I wanted people to know that thousands of Americans were willing to travel to Texas and tolerate the heat, humidity, and bugs in order to support a grieving mother whose new purpose was to shine a light on the lies that led to the war and to bring home our troops so that no other mother would have to know the pain that she felt.

Over time, this blog has become more of an exploration of who I am, my spirituality, and how life works. I love life's complexities, exploring the shades of gray. I want to, as Rainier Maria Rilke said,

"Be patient toward all that is unsolved in your heart and try to love the questions themselves, like locked rooms and like books that are now written in a very foreign tongue. Do not now seek the answers, which cannot be given you because you would not be able to live them. And the point is, to live everything. Live the questions now. Perhaps you will then gradually, without noticing it, live along some distant day into the answer."

Maybe my blog is just one big question about what is needed in order for people to take the time to love and cherish each other and our earth. Maybe someday, I will "live along some distant day into the answer."

In the meantime, thank you for joining me on my journey. I welcome you to share yours with me

Cleans Up Fairly Well...

(Notice the position of my left arm - I couldn't have done that a few weeks ago! Today's the 8th week since my surgery and I'm getting better!)

This weekend, we'll be in San Fransisco for the 50th wedding anniversary celebration of an aunt and uncle. Said aunt and uncle are holding their party at a YACHT CLUB. Wow! I'm more of a canoe or kayak type. I don't really know what people do at yacht clubs besides celebrate their 50th anniversaries.

So, I had to find myself some spiffy clothes for the occasion and since I believe in recycling (and also because I'm cheap), I hit the thrift stores and found this dress and these shoes.

I remain a Woman in Black...

Total for Dress and Shoes: $8.50
Personal Satisfaction: Priceless

I don't like having my photo taken, but after I've added some jewelry and brushed my hair, maybe I'll get someone else to take my photo. For now, the color-coordinated camera in front of the face adds a nice touch, don't you think?

Wow! You really do have a wide range of movement in your arm! The surgery was successful!!!!!

Black is certainly good for any occasion. And $8.50 is an unbelievably good deal.

I’ve never been to a yacht club, but I have attended social functions at an exclusive boat club on the Ohio River. From my observations, the primary activity of the members was drinking lots and lots of booze.

Have fun, Carol!

Thanks Otowi!

I'm not usually lucky enough to get a deal as good as this one.

Nick,

Yes, the surgery plus the physical therapy, plus the acupuncture, plus the exercises have been successful. I have a ways to go with internal and external rotation, but I should be graduating from P.T. in a few weeks!

Hmmmmm... You mean that I'm just going to a BAR FOR RICH PEOPLE??? ;-)

Thanks for the good wishes - I plan on having lots of fun - I LUV S.F.

Great look, Carol. As someone who has really only seen you in denim, it's quite nice to see a little change up. And as someone who has met you personally, I can vouch that the lady in black was a knock out at the Yacht Club!

Carol - You look mah-ve-lous!
And yes, a yacht club is basically a bar for rich people who like boats more than golf. Think of yourself as Margaret Mead in Samoa....

I like to poke around the Goodwill store sometimes. It's a lot more fun than the chain stores- you never know what you're going to find!

I haven't heard from my brother in a while, but you can keep an eye out for him while you're in San Francisco. He goes everywhere by bike, and his is kind of distinctive: it's a Harley-Davidson.

I didn't even know they made bicycles, but the do, or did, and he's got one. If he's inside, the bike will be chained outside.

Carol, you look GORGEOUS! And yes, your cuff is rotating nicely. Congratulations, babe.

I recently purchased a black outfit for my daughter's graduation. It wasn't quite as good a buy as yours, but I found it at a Liz Claiborne outlet store, and it was pretty darn cheap, having been marked down about 50 times. I believe it was mis-sized and so the wrong people had been trying it on. It was the only one they had and so I tried it on, hoping against hope that I would get into a 6. And I did. Somehow.

I never pay full price for clothes either.

Robert,

Thanks! Yeah, I might need a letter from you that proves the person in a DRESS is really me!

Thanks Liz!

I'll let you read the manuscript before it gets published. ;-)

Thomas,

It IS fun to look for treasures at Goodwill (that's where the dress came from)! Hmmmmm... A Harley bike. I'll be looking for it. Does it have the Harley insignia?

San,

Thanks!

It sounds like that dress was all marked down and mis-sized so that it could wait for your observant eye! Way to go! I bet you looked beauteous!

I guess I'm glad that some people pay full price so that the rest of us can get good deals!

I almost missed this one! Wow! Look at you all sleek and sophisticated and with bendy body bits (that weren't so bendy before.)
That dress is lovely! Sadly my legs wouldn't go in a dress like that! I have the legs of an antique table.... ;o) (add your own end bit....)

Ah yes, sophisticated. Me???

An antique table, huh? You crack me up!
