Why Do I Write This Blog???

The easiest (and probably the most honest) answer to that question is: I don't know. It all started in the summer of 2005, when I went to Crawford, Texas ( a.k.a. the home of the prez's ranch, a.k.a. the home of Camp Casey) to support Cindy Sheehan. I wanted the world to know that, contrary to what one could read in the mainstream media, the peace movement was alive and well and large numbers of Americans did not support the war in Iraq. I wanted people to know that thousands of Americans were willing to travel to Texas and tolerate the heat, humidity, and bugs in order to support a grieving mother whose new purpose was to shine a light on the lies that led to the war and to bring home our troops so that no other mother would have to know the pain that she felt.

Over time, this blog has become more of an exploration of who I am, my spirituality, and how life works. I love life's complexities, exploring the shades of gray. I want to, as Rainier Maria Rilke said,

"Be patient toward all that is unsolved in your heart and try to love the questions themselves, like locked rooms and like books that are now written in a very foreign tongue. Do not now seek the answers, which cannot be given you because you would not be able to live them. And the point is, to live everything. Live the questions now. Perhaps you will then gradually, without noticing it, live along some distant day into the answer."

Maybe my blog is just one big question about what is needed in order for people to take the time to love and cherish each other and our earth. Maybe someday, I will "live along some distant day into the answer."

In the meantime, thank you for joining me on my journey. I welcome you to share yours with me

BlogBlast For Peace: November, 2008

Today I wish for peace.

Not just an absence of violence or conflict

(Even though I want that, too)

But my bigger wish is that we/you/I may all know our true Self,

The Self underneath our name, our title, our talent, our mood, our beliefs

Down to who we were before we were born

Before the ideas that float around us stuck to us

like a dust storm on a newly-washed car.

Ideas of who we are,

right and wrong,

who is lovable and who isn't,

what we should look like and what we should do.

If we take a small glimpse of what there is under

all of those thoughts that are, really, only thoughts,

I think - no, I KNOW - we will experience

the beauty of our unity

and true Peace.

The first peace, which is the most important, is that which comes within the souls of people when they realize their relationship, their oneness with the universe and all its powers, and when they realize that at the center of the universe dwells the Great Spirit, and that this center is really everywhere, it is within each of us.
- Black Elk

I think things might get a lot less histile in this country pretty quickly. According to MSNBC, Obama's first order of the presidency is to revoke over 200 of Bush's executive orders.

I hope he does it, Indigo.

I wonder if he feels like he just inherited an old house that needs an immediate total makeover.

Hi Carol - your peace globe is simple and powerful. And the quote from Black Elk is really amazing. Your own post was like a poem, and I especially love these lines:

'Down to who we were before we were born
Before the ideas that float around us stuck to us
like a dust storm on a newly-washed car'

Would it be alright if I posted your peace globe on my blog this week for Thursday Thirteen?

Blogger Carol said...

Hi Julia!

Thank you.

Yes, you can post it. I don't know what Thursday Thirteen is but now I get to find out! ;-)

I'll be over to your place to check it out now and on Thursday.

Thanks for stopping by!
