Join Our Women in Black Group As We Stand For Peace!

After returning from Camp Casey in 2005, one of my fellow travelers and I decided to start a Women in Black vigil in our area. The vigil has taken place each week since then. We stand for peace and against violence of all types, whether it is domestic violence, violent dictatorships, war, or any other agressive policy.

Every Saturday, you can find us in Lakewood, Colorado from 12:30-1:30 p.m. at the SW Corner of West Colfax & the Denver West Retail Entrance. Anyone who shares a deep desire to stand for peace and nonviolence is welcome. Wear black. We are silent because mere words cannot express the tragedy that wars and hatred bring. Our vigil is a way of keeping the awareness of ongoing violence in the forefront of people's minds and holding a space for the possibility of peace.

Brief History and Background of the Women in Black Internationally (for more information, go to www.womeninblack.org )

Women in Black is a worldwide network of women committed to peace with justice and actively opposed to injustice, war, militarism and other forms of violence.

Women in Black as we know it today began in 1988 in Israel. Jewish and Arab women stood silently in public places during the Palestinian intifada. At least ten vigils still take place in Israel.

Today there are Women in Black groups in more than thirty countries, with more than eighty groups across the U.S.
